The Newgrange series is a response to my
need to create a space of reverence, "sacredness," and awe: my
neolithic ancestors built the Newgrange mound to fill that same need.
Like them, I have used natural materials worked by hand, but my own
"space," like my own world, is more fragile and less
permanent.
Dyed kozo pulp, processed using
traditional Japanese techniques, was poured into a western mold.
Templates were then used for the shapes. Sheets were sun-dried; then the
images were "pulled out" and enriched with colored pencils,
creating a tension of surface/image/light.
